The Power of Creativity

Burberry x PRIM

PLAY

United by the idea that creativity opens spaces and creates opportunities, storytelling platform PRIM and Burberry come together to create a unique pop-up bookshop and series of events spotlighting queer Black stories as part of our ongoing commitment to access to literature.

Running in London from 13 – 16 October, the PRIM Con-temporary Bookshop and Exhibition amplifies and provides access to literature by and about African, Caribbean and Afro-Latinx queer communities as part of celebrations of UK Black History Month.

The PRIM Con-temporary Bookshop And Exhibition

For its second year, the immersive pop-up plays host to a line-up of curated activities that show the breadth of creativity within the queer Black community.

Alongside poetry readings, guest performances and an exhibition by self-taught visual artist Cameron Ugbodu, PRIM debuts its film ‘POWER IN READING’ which is an adaptation of the novel ‘Mr Loverman’ by Bernardine Evaristo, directed by filmmaker Sannchia Gaston with the support of Burberry.

What to Expect

Against a backdrop of literary titles – written by Black authors or telling African, Caribbean and Afro-Latinx stories – expect performances by TAWIAH, Kadeem Tyrell and TianaMajor9, as well as an afternoon of poetry readings hosted by Chloe Filani.

Discover interdisciplinary artist Bernice Mulenga’s free portrait sessions, immerse yourself in The House of Bodega’s Vogue Ball or join a basketball tournament courtesy of Nike on the roof of the pop-up’s inspiring location.

About PRIM

Founded by K Bailey Obazee, PRIM is a unique storytelling platform dedicated to educating, connecting, documenting and sharing the myriad of Black storytelling mediums that exist. Curated by and for the Queer Black community, the platform’s aim is to make stories by or centred around African, Caribbean and Afro-Latinx people available and accessible.
PRIM

‘This is a real moment for Black British authors, writers, artists and those creating and sharing stories in every medium. Support from Burberry in this way means the world to us and it’s a great way to kick off PRIM’s year-on-year commitment to platform storytellers of Black ancestry.’
